My sister was gifted a really nice pair of ultra thin heated gloves. She LOVES them! They’re a real game changer for those freezing cold mornings at 5am doing barn chores!
Battery powered heated vest. Talk about a good base layer! Oh, to coordinate with the earlier posts; a battery powered heated vest with batteries charged using renewable solar and wind generated electricity. Too bad the Lithium in the batteries was sourced from China who undoubtedly exploited a third world country to strip their land and rob their people to source the Lithium. Mmmm toasty warm though!
@accelerator@chienfou@therealjrn You mean like you shouldn’t move into a “garden” (basement with half above grade level) apartment in an old house with zero insulation, old windows, and a heating system that struggles to keep up with the high(!) amount of heat loss?
At about 8 this morning I went out and shovelled maybe 7-8 inches of snow off the driveway. At 4 there were about 5 more inches so I did it again. Since I didn’t get cold either time (except for the icicles in my beard) I’m saying that’s a good way to stay warm. Gonna be hurting tomorrow though.
@cheinfou I thought about you and your wife a bunch. I still have about 5-6 more fruit trees to prune. Also a Japanese magnolia and some other deciduous trees. I really wish I had a clone.
@sillyheathen
A pruned a couple of the pear trees before this last round of rain and cold came in. It’s supposed to be clear and cool next week so I may try to prune the apple trees at that time. The peaches will have to wait till a little later in the spring, tho I will be putting some dormant oil on them shortly. Got to do the grapes at some point too.
@chienfou@sillyheathen My wife finally broke down and hired a crew to prune the fruit trees this year. (She has a lot on her plate and after some near-catastrophic attempts, I am not allowed to do it unsupervised. )
So - done and dusted. Just have to burn the piles of prunings. (Oddly, I am allowed to play with fire. )
Not getting cold.
State leaders not being in the pockets of the energy producers. Ooooops
@mehvid1 If you think ours are just “in the pockets”, you’re an optimist.
@mehvid1 Ouch. But true.
Don’t forget quality gloves!
@mehvid1 And a warm hat!
@mehvid1 Came here to say “everybody forgets about good gloves.” Having hands in your coat pockets doesn’t end well if you’re walking on ice.
@brennyn @mehvid1
Yes gloves!

@brennyn @Lynnerizer @mehvid1 I love my Bernie Sanders mittens I got on Etsy.

@brennyn @ItalianScallion @mehvid1
Those are nice, and I bet they’re warm and toasty!

Then used child slave labor to put them together.
But, yes, my wife loves her heated vest and her jacket.
@accelerator @chienfou So are you saying the lithium warms people twice? Efficient - Ben Franklin would be proud!

@chienfou @macromeh it’s twice as nice! Nikola Tesla is smiling.
@accelerator @chienfou @macromeh Lithium warms people especially well when the batteries catch on fire like the ones in the cheap hoverboards do.
Being judicious about where you decide to live…
@chienfou Yeah, that dang judge said I couldn’t go there.
@chienfou @therealjrn Sometimes, if you promise never to come back, they’ll get really cooperative.
@chienfou @therealjrn Extradition…check into it.

Staying active outside and pruning your fruit trees so they’re not insane in the spring and summer. And then having a bonfire.

@chienfou @macromeh @sillyheathen
Is this what they call weaponized incompetence?
@chienfou @Kyeh @sillyheathen

I prefer selective strategic incompetence.
@chienfou @macromeh @sillyheathen
Uh huh.
What about the warm cats?
/showme Human under blanket is covered in warm cats.
@cfg83 Here’s the image you requested for “Human under blanket is covered in warm cats.”
@cfg83
